Technology

Friction stir welding

The friction stir welding (FSW) belongs to technologies where the welded joint is formed in solid state at elevated temperatures of materials joined, i. e, without their melting down. The absence of fusion offers a number of advantages compared to the conventional welding methods. The arc burning products, radiation, spatter, porosity, welding distortions, hot and cold cracking etc. are eliminated. The higher quality of final products, solving the weldability issues, safety, welder´s health protection and life environment friendliness are the driving force for investigation of potential of this technology and implementation of the achieved results into practice.

Arc technologies

We realize the fabrication of welded structures with application of arc technologies, namely MIG/MAG, TIG, welding with covered electrode and other processes. We have available the equipment allowing to employ automated welding processes: MIG/MAG, TIG, submerged arc welding, electroslag welding, resistance spot welding, friction stir welding  (FSW) and others. The materials: commercial structural steels, austenitic steels aluminium and its alloys, surfacing of Duplex and Superduplex steels.

Laser technologies

The laser robotic cell, built together with Blumenbecker company makes possible to apply the welding and surfacing technologies with the Laser welding head and Laser-Hybrid head and also with other laser welding technologies.

Surfacing and renovations

The renovation methods for the worn parts and the general technologies for creation of layers belong to our services developed for a long-time. Surfacing is the technology applicable for renovation but it is ever more applied also in fabrication of the new parts, where the surfaces with special properties can be attained. Our customers can find by us a wide assortment of materials and services in the field of renovation, surfacing and formation of new layers. We offer different levels of cooperation, starting with advisory services, development of technology, preparation of documentation and papers necessary for starting activities in your company, from performance of renovation proper in our company up to a complete delivery of the renovated parts including the final machining.

Splitting of materials

We offer our free capacities on the equipment type Plasmacutter, allowing 2½D plasma cutting of metallic materials with computer control of kerf shape, in the thickness range for the steels from 0.5 to 30 mm, 1 to 50 mm for aluminium and its alloys, 2 to 20 mm for copper and 1 to 50 mm for the copper alloys. Also oxygen cutting of steels up to 150 mm in thickness is possible on the same equipment.

Vibrational treatment of parts

Vibrational treatment is suitable for reduction of residual stresses mainly for the products which cannot be annealed after welding, forging or casting. Vibrational treatment is an alternative technology for reduction of residual stresses, where also dimensional stability of ready parts is required.

The Welding Research Institute is producing the equipment for vibrational treatment type VÚZ VZ-6.

Surface layers

The Welding Research Institute within its services to customers fabricates the surface layers on the supplied semi products, in thickness from several tenths of mm up to several tens of mm, resistant to wear, abrasion, corrosion etc. These layers may be deposited by surfacing (with covered and flux-cored electrodes, flux-cored strips) by spraying and deposition of metallic powders. Spraying is performed by a direct deposition of the powders by flame on the supplied parts, by the two-step technology, i. e. spraying followed with remelting of the sprayed layer or by cold spraying, consisting of spraying a backing layer for improving the bond with the substrate and spraying the final functional layer. This procedure is suitable for the cast rolling rolls, hydraulic pistons, crankshafts, camshafts,  glass moulds, tools for processing ceramic matters, bearing seats etc.
